If your dog is barking at something and running around barking, scratching at it,
then suddenly yelps. Do not hesitate, get out there and look for the reason.
Be careful as you might find a very angry spider in the grass. If there is a visible
spider then collect in a sealed jar and take it in with the dog to the vet.

You may find your dog already in the early / late stages of a bite of some sort and
not see anything. The dog might be in a state of shock, convulsing, trembling,
salivating (drooling) or unconscious.

If so GET TO YOUR VET AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

FIRST apply a pressure bandage to the leg / paw that the dog is licking / favouring.
This will slow the poison.
Then apply a splint to the leg to the best of you abilities. This will immobilize the
leg to prevent the dog spreading the poison faster. Carry the dog and try to keep it
calm and relaxed. You may need another persons help for large dogs. Use a large
blanket as a sling to carry it.

Get to the vet ASAP for treatment.
