This keyboard is designed specifically to work as a midi controller. It will not work as a stand-alone keyboard, so you should be aware of this before you buy. You must have a computer with a USB port available to use this keyboard!
One great thing about this model is the fact that it requires no batteries and no electronic plugin. It works right off the power from the computer itself through a powered USB port! It takes its power through the same port it uses to stream data to the computer, so it’s extremely convenient.

With 61 semi-weighted keys, you will have almost all of the keys you need for any song, and if you need additional octaves, you can use the octave shift wheel to change the octaves as needed.
Overall, this is a truly exceptional midi keyboard, and the only real issue some people have is that the semi-weighted keys still don’t feel like a “real” piano. However, these keys do feel much more like real piano keys than standard keyboards, and for the price, you can’t beat this model.

Yamaha PSR-E403 Midi Portable Grand Yamaha Keyboard
While other models are great basic keyboards for beginners, this model from Yamaha is a high-end model with many different features. You’ll have a number of different knobs you can use to tweak sound, a beautiful blue backlit display, as well as an array of sound effects built in.
The size is a little smaller than some people might like, but this can be a benefit if you feel like you will move the keyboard often.
As a side benefit, you’ll get a great accessory pack they call a “Survival Accessory Kit”. This includes a foot pedal, headphones, a CD, and a power adapter. So you won’t need to buy a bunch of extras. Everything is included.
